Galaxy Note 8 pegged for late September launch

Halfway through the year and it’s time for new Galaxy Note 8 rumors to take over the blogosphere. There have been rumours for  dates when Samsung will announce the device, but the newest speculation slates the actual launch of the phone for late September.

An announcement in August with a launch in September is a slower approach than what we saw with the Note 5 and Note 7, but that should line up the launch with whatever Apple plans on announcing. It won’t have the advantage of being first to market, but if it’s a solid device that still gives them the opportunity to disrupt the iPhone 7S or iPhone 8, whichever Apple plans on releasing.

Unsurprisingly, there is still expecting the phone to launch with a Snapdragon 835 CPU with 6GB of RAM, which will be a slight improvement over the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. We’ve been hearing that it will feature a dual-camera setup, too, matching other popular phones, allowing one camera to shoot high quality photos with the second lens allowing for optical image zooming and image stabilization.

The fingerprint scanner will still likely be on the back of the phone, and you can expect the defining S-Pen as with every other Galaxy Note phone. Battery capacity will take a hit, though, with Samsung only shooting for a 3300mAh battery to avoid another exploding fiasco.

Interestingly, the Note 8 is probably going to cost quite a bit more than its non-stylus’d counterparts. The unlocked version will reportedly retail for €999, which is about $900 and a couple hundred more than the Galaxy S8. Samsung’s Note line always costs a bit more, but the Note 8 is definitely going to sting.
