The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the recently approved N32,000 pension increment for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme as soon as the 2025 budgetary allocations are released.
In a statement,Tolulope Odunaiya, PTAD’s Executive Secretary, explained that the January 2025 pension payments did not reflect the increment due to delays in the release of funds.
However, she assured pensioners that the directorate is working closely with relevant government agencies to facilitate the full implementation of the increment and the settlement of outstanding arrears as soon as possible.
The statement, signed by Olugbenga Ajayi, PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, emphasised the directorate’s commitment to ensuring timely pension payments.
It read in part:”The Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, Tolulope Odunaiya, has reiterated PTAD’s commitment to implementing the N32,000 pension increment for pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme once the 2025 budgetary provisions are released.’
She stated that the January 2025 pension payments did not include the increment because the necessary funds had not yet been disbursed.
However, she assured pensioners that PTAD is actively engaging with relevant government agencies to ensure that the increment is fully implemented and all outstanding arrears are paid as soon as possible.
Odunaiya further disclosed that PTAD had already disbursed four months’ arrears (August–November 2024) to pensioners under the Civil Service Pension Department.
Additionally, retirees from the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department, the Police Pension Department, and the university sector of the Parastatals Pension Department received five months’ arrears (August–December 2024).
She also highlighted that through strategic fund management, PTAD had previously settled all outstanding arrears related to the 20 per cent and 28 per cent pension increments, ensuring that affected pensioners received full payment.
Reaffirming PTAD’s commitment to pensioners’ welfare, Odunaiya assured retirees that the directorate remains dedicated to securing the necessary funds for the N32,000 increment and ensuring that pensioners receive their entitlements without unnecessary delays.
