Generally in business the numbers don’t lie. For the first quarter of 2022, Airbus had earnings of €1.26 billion ($1.34 billion) while Boeing lost $1.22 billion.
Airbus reported total revenue of €12 billion ($12.7 billion) compared to Boeing’s $14 billion. Airbus delivered 140 aircraft for €8.5 billion in commercial aircraft sales, while Boeing delivered 95 for revenue of $4.2 billion.
The Airbus result has primarily been built on the back of the A320 family. Airbus delivered 49 A320neo, 58 A321neo and two A319neo aircraft in the first three months. The only multiple deliveries were to China Southern Airlines with two A319neos and two A321neos and Lufthansa with two A321neos.
Airbus also delivered 11 A220s, six A330s and 16 A350s. Deliveries totaled 142, but two Airbus A350-900s recorded as sold to Aeroflot in December were deleted due to sanctions preventing their transfer.
