Katsina govt purchases N4.7bn fertiliser for farmers

The Katsina State government has spent N4.7 billion on the purchase of 35,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser for farmers during the 2019 wet season.

Tasiu Dandagoro,  the commissioner for works and housing, disclosed this during a press briefing after the state executive council’s meeting in Katsina.

He said that the fertiliser would be sold to farmers at an affordable rate to boost agricultural production in the state.

“The contractor has already started delivering the commodities to the state.

“Furthermore, the council has approved N1.8 billion for the rehabilitation of Sulma dam to boost farming activities and enhance water supply in the state,” Dandagoro said.

He said that the council had also approved N700 million for the purchase of drugs for some General Hospitals and Comprehensive Healthcare Centres in the state to enhance healthcare delivery.

The commissioner added that the government approved N1.6 billion for the upgrading of the 48.6 kilometres Gurbinbaure-Shinfida-Batsari Road.

Dandagoro added that the road project would assist to boost socio-economic activities in the general area.
