The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, (NCAA) says its plan to pull down 8,805 masts belonging to Globacom and some commercial banks has not been jettisoned.

Sam Adurogboye, spokesman of NCAA, told business a.m. in a brief interview that the authority was “perfecting relevant agreement with a firm that will carry out the demolition exercise for the authority.”

He however noted that the cost of pulling down the masts was none of the authority’s concern, as the telecom giant and the affected banks would bear the cost of demolishing the masts.

“We are mobilising the firms that will carry out the exercise for us. The issue of cost is not the question. It is the owners of the mast that will bear the cost ultimately. Many of them have started to regularise with our stipulations. For those that are regularised, we will remove them from the rest before our action,” Adurogboye said.

The NCAA had two week ago said it would demolish a total of 8,805 masts belonging to some banks and financial institutions as well as telecoms operators who had “discountenanced” its regulatory requirements on the clearance to erect any high structure within navigable airspace in the country.

Out of the number of masts mapped for demolition, Globacom owns 7,012 while the rest belong to some commercial banks.
