The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed April 15 for supplementary governorship elections in Kebbi and Adamawa states.
Rotimi Lawrence Oyekanmi, the chief press secretary to Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman, who confirmed the report in Abuja on Monday, added that all outstanding national and state assembly supplementary elections will also take place on the same date.
This is as the March 18 gubernatorial elections in both states were declared inconclusive by INEC, the electoral umpire, following reports concerning breaches of electoral laws that led to cancellation of results in polling units across both states.
Moreso, cases relating to violence, destruction of election materials, disruption of electoral proceedings and over-voting were attributed for the inconclusive results.
As a result, INEC, in a statement posted on Twitter, said the supplementary polls for the inconclusive elections will be held on April 15.
“Arising from its meeting held today, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decided that all outstanding Governorship, National and State Assembly supplementary elections will take place on Saturday 15th April 2023,” the statement read.
